Coral Bay, Western Australia

I had always dreamed of going to Coral Bay, and finally managed to make

it there till a couple of years ago during the month of January. After the

excrutiatingly loooooooong drive that just took forever, (even with a few

days stop-over at Monkey Mia) it was every bit as good as I had envisaged

and more...

The crystal clear water is bath temperature, the fish (Spangled Emperer

I believe) are friendly and can be seen without even getting your feet wet

from the main beach! It is truly a snorkellers paradise with coral and

marine life visible the moment you submerge your head under water

from the flat beachside entry.

It is well worth stashing a few dollars away and booking a catamaran

tour to the outer reef or a quad bike tour. You will, (not may) see turtles

in their natural habitat and swim in some truly beautiful picture perfect

locations.                                                                                                                                                 (Pattinson,C, Personal Photographs)

The town itself does not offer much else than the basic bakery (albeit a huge hit and visited everyday), a pub, small supermarket, couple of touristy shops and a fuel outlet. It does however now have a brand spanking new marina, I imagine would please all the boaties or fishing crowds.

Altougth the 'peak' season is said to be July/August, due to milder weather, we did not mind the extra few degrees on the high temperature of the days as it balanced quite nicely with fewer people we had to share the town with.
