 Kalbarri, Western Australia

This place has it all! Quiet beaches, fishing beaches, surf beaches,

rock pools, gorges and an amazing river system. You will find Kalbarri

approximately 6 hours drive from Perth and 100kms off the  North

West Coastal Highway.  Essentially it is a fishing town, predomininately

crayfish, but also very popular with Summer tourists that enjoy any

water based activities.

My first visit is thanks to a high school friends family way back in

my teens. I have visitied more than a dozen times (lost count actually)

as a young adult, a couple, as a parent and booked to go again this

year!

Apart from the obvious water based sports like swimming, snorkelling, diving, kayaking on the Murchison, Kalbarri offers a whole heap more just 22 kms back  up the main drag at the National Park. Here you will find a variety of treks, trails and climbs to suit all levels of fitness. One of the most photographed icons is 'Natures Window', which really should be called Natures Frame, as it frames the view of the Murchison River winding through the gorges below it and usually the first image you see on all the glossy travel brochures.

Another little side attraction in town is Rainbow Jungle. This is an exceptionally well maintained bird sanctuary

that showcases all sorts of birds, icluding one of my favourite feathered friends, Macaws. In the evenings it

transforms into an outdoor movie theatre and perfect for a balmy Summers night.
